I recieved these and many other coins from my 91 yr. Old Mother in law yesterday. Lots of mercury dimes, kennedy halves, Ikes, foreign, wheat walking liberty. Just starting to figure out what is all she kept. These two caught my eye, the 1921 has cracks on obverse and reverse along with what appears to be maybe lamination above the "A" in states. Any help on gold coin appreciated, could not find this coin but some similar in different dollar amounts.
Nice coins intreasting morgan and die cracks. That could also be a strike through above the states and I think I'm seeing clash marks?
Here is the die crack guide for the 1921-D. You might be able to identify the variety http://vamworld.com/wiki/21-D_Die_Crack_Break_Guide
Thank you expat. I looked up with your help and seems to be closest to VAM 1J . Without the one nearest the star on reverse.
The 1921 Dollar is a die crack. It's just wider in that area than the rest of the crack. To the left that crack goes to the rim. It only goes to the next letter on the right but it branches to the S and goes away before coming back in UNITED. It could be the start of a Die that was shattering. The gold coin is damaged.
