There's a very faint shadow on the left top of the last digit. I tried blowing it up but it gets distorted. I think it's a 1924-d. I can also see a 6 but it looks to high to me. Just my opinion.
I too like Lord Marcovan I have not done much with Lincs, they got too small, though I did complete the collection including the keys. I switched to Byz among other things that are bigger, and interested me a lot more. Sometimes the coins select the person, not the other way around. Byz grabbed me hard and hasn't let loose as of yet. One thing I have been thinking about for the past five or six years is a type set of Lincs. One of each type from 1909 to today. The types collected can be something like one S,D,P with a combination of VDB, metal composition, Linc commems of 2009. With my poor brain on overdrive sometimes I think it would be fun and take 10 coins. Of course, it's my project so I can give and take a bit. Now I'm in trouble, I've let the cat out of the bag. Ok, I do like living on the edge, plain, engralled, punched, reeded, and everything else. Cheers to all.
At the time it was the best answer as it was the only undeniably correct answer out of the first six guesses.
Yes, I understand, but it doesn't change the stated. Perhaps I'm just old fashioned, but I cannot help but to think that "best answer" tags should be reserved for truly outstanding answers. Unfortunately, this is very rarely the case.
Not sure if the digit wore off but more likely IMHO could have been a grease filled die. I have found that even if it is a grease filled die it does leave an impression. To see it you need to look from the side at about a 30degree angle or so and a ghost image does sometimes show up. You can see this in a 1909 VDB I have.
W-101.... have you seen a weak D with mismatched die pair before? My coin seems like a "coattails" die #4 on the obv but stronger rev than a #4 rev. Possible an early die state instead of mis-match?
IMHO it's a 1926 D. The mint mark is directly below the "2" and the top of the "6" is above the "2". However the mint mark is too high and maybe a variety.
Mintmarks were hand-punched at that time (and through 1989, at least for cents) and means positions can and do vary.
As pointed out, it can't be a 21 and I don't see the curve of a 6. I've never seen one like this before. I'm stumped!
I'm with you, I see the remnant of a zero there. These are difficult to nail down, with the condition it is in...Spark
