    I've never seen crosshatched improper-alloy patterns.

    I'm willing to grant the lamination (across the entire bottom of the obverse), but that looks to me like a badly damaged coin...?

    I have always considered this type to be a mottled woody.
    They are strange looking indeed. Nice lamination.

    I seen an 1909 Swith real nice color, and a spot like the op coin on the coin.

    The gold color tells me someone coated it in something that's flaking off...

    Ah no that's not the case, these I've seen this color before. It's the alloy.
