Is anyone else seeing rather rough edges along the rim of the 2-oz? I'll see if I can get pictures later.
Is there even a self slab for that size? Mine had a tiny spot but nothing major and have gotten far far worse from the mint
Due to the size and striking force required, the very outer edge is the last thing to strike up. So these generally show the original planchet (small nicks and all) along the very outer rim. They are all pretty much that way - not a lot I can do about that short of re-engineering the whole thing (new sculpture contours, new dies, etc). If I was making a fairly large quantity of them, that would be warranted. But for the small quantity that will be made, I don't plan to make any other dies.
As someone who's already got mine, I have no objection to small-quantity runs. I took a closer look at the edge than I normally do, and it set me to wondering about pressure, flow, and resurfacing on "smooth-edge" strikes. I don't have a lot to compare it to, other than a world of nickels and cents (too much smaller) and a few generic silver rounds (probably not generally struck by great perfectionists). If I haven't mentioned it lately, it's really really cool to be able to get technical responses here from you. Thanks again!
There is no possible way that the 50mm round size will fit. The hole (opening) in the current ANACS holders is about 46mm in diameter. My "41mm" octagon pieces are actually about 44mm when measured from corner to opposite corner. So those just barely fit.
I looked -- couldn't find a 50mm-diameter self slab. Maybe someday? In the meantime I found an Air-tite capsule that should work.
I guess I can't blame them then. I know NGC does some of your stuff, any idea if the 2oz might be one or do they just stick to the tokens? I might have to go that route. I'd really like to find some slab, I can be as clumsy as I want with those and know the coin is safe lol.
Was it posted here on CoinTalk anywhere that there were bulk-handled Broken Sword Overstrikes for $110 at some point in the past few days but are now out of stock? http://www.dc-coin.com/1grabenercoinpressmedallionsaleprice-1-6-1-1-1.aspx
In the thread about the 13 minted Walkers over struck on a 2016 ASE, someone mentioned the bulk handled Peace. I saw them available yesterday afternoon, but I waited until evening time and they were all gone. The production blog says only 19 were made so far. Maybe more will become available in the future.
I always have trouble finding the minting figures (figuring out which category something is in sometimes). Is there a single page with all the minting figures?
