What I see is a 101 year old Cent that has had a rough life. Some kind of harsh environment affected the surface. I have found similar looking Cents in rivers and on beaches.
The edge could be 1 of 2 things. A minor Partial Collar strike or it was once in some kind of jewelry bezel.
    But thanks for sharing.

Well that's cool thanks for looking at my photos. I figured I better check because I weighed a coin with a lot of damage and the worse was 2.9. But this coin weighs 2.6 so that's why I asked. Thanks again for looking. :)

Thanks for showing your penny. I agree with Paddyman in that this coin has had a very rough life. Regardless, it will complete your wheat set but, I am sorry to say is not really worth much at all. My eyes see a coin below Good so, its worth maybe a dime. Enjoy though.

Looks like coins I have dug up MD by the ocean=salt water damage?

Sorry. The question was what could make this penny weigh 2.6 when it doesn't look like much was taken off the coin.

Well you are in luck because I have one other 1916 s. What other years are you looking for in your collection. I have a few years that I can manage. Post your collection to me and I'll compare notes

tough question, without it in hand.

Salt water erosion could do that

I'm just yanking your leg! Lol. Do you have a wheat cent collection that you have started? Maybe books? I'm just curious to see how full your book is. Thanks for your time.

I'll make a thread tonight and tag you in it. Either tonight or tomorrow. Most likely tonight but yes I keep every wheat cent I find no matter what condition. Got the blue Whitman books
