I agree with Robec on this one (not matte). Many wheaties from the teens exhibited exceptionally strong beard detail and semi-sharp rims. However, the weakness in LI of LIBERTY and the left part of the rim are also common of business strikes of teen wheaties. I'm going with business strike MS65. On a somewhat-tangent, I still can't see the cartwheel luster on the obverse that well for some reason.
Gbroke, that is one gorgeous 1916 Lincoln cent! I apologize about the pic of me with the Giant Lincoln Cent... As for that Penny, it's not a painting, but a relief... It's about a 1" thick relief that took approximately 125 hours to sculpt. As for your 1916, you need to get that professionally graded and encased... I would rate your coin an Fr-2......:rollling: JUST KIDDING!!!! Your Lincoln Cent would be an MS-65RB choice. with a price of about $75-$250. The retail or red book i would think, might be $300 -$400... I think.....?
If Im correct, even if the coin was struck through something, it would still be considered "a coin struck as is". I still say MS66. THAT is a piece of artwork you have there.
Regardless looks like a good strike, lots of detail in the beard and hair. Are those finger prints on Obv (above date) and Rev (bottom)? Otherwise I als say 65 R, almost an RB thoughy. Want to know the final grade. Good luck.
Many wheaties from the teens exhibited exceptionally strong beard detail and semi-sharp rims. I did not know that.
