I was wondering what a complete set of Walking Liberty Halves 1916-47 P,D, and S would be worth aside from the general silver content. A relative of mine obtained all his from his local small town bank years ago. I was going through his collection and he had every Walking Liberty from 1916 on, all from the PDS mints. Sure none were mint, but some are darn close AU, most are average circulated. What is the best way to go about even attempting a proper appraisal and evaluation? I don't exactly know all the key dates in this series. He also had a few boxes of Franklin' halves from the first year of minting on as well. However I was more interested in the Walkers. I imagine grading the whole collection might be silly and of course outrageously expensive. When I tell him of the potential worth he laughs and says anyone who would pay over .50 for a half dollar is crazy. He can't fathom why people pay so much for a "used" silver coin. I think it's fortunate he got this collection at face value. I have told him several times he should get his entire collection appraised so he knows what the value is. He keeps telling me, "let the family fight for it all when I die," then laughs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
