    Thanks for your input. Took it to a respected dealer today. It is silver. It is in the proper weight range. Looked at it under higher power scope. Inconclusive on WHAT was done, but it was clear that it was altered. It’s worth junk silver price...that’s all.

    Since it's only worth melt value I'd hold on to it. You'll probably never see another one.

    I really would like to see a picture. I'm thinking it's probably a 1945 with the 4 scraped.

    I actually have one A 1915 WL i picked up at a flea market but in much better condition
