Lead the only thing your coin doesnt show is luster...trying to post pics if photobucket will let me.

RLM, yeah it could only get a 62 but the Reverse could cause it to get a lower grade.

Keep in mind I am learning grading as fast as I can and that I am new to grades. For 35 years, I never paid any more attention than "oh.. thats a nice uncirculated coin" or "thats a worn circulated coin.. not worth much".....

Rim, this is another example where I don't understand how much consideration is given to the reverse in relation to grading. It SEEMS TO ME that the most inconsistent thing about grading is how the reverse factors in. In the "post a reverse thread", that is sort of what I am trying to get at. If the reverse is crappy compared to the obverse, it will drag a grade down, however if the reverse is spectacular compared to the obverse, it won't bring a grade up... That just seems so wrong, I get it, but it really makes fine grading a subjective joke. IMO of course!

here is the reverse of that '14 MS62BN the grader this day was having a bad day for sure. Good candidate for resubmission - I think it should go 65BN (comparatively to other 65BNs I have) especially considering the amount of luster this coin has. Sorry for hi-jacking this thread!

It didn't have a picture of the guy who graded it, and/or a pic of who submitted it? :)

It's cool, I am still and constantly learning so it's all good. I still think it should have been/be at least an MS60 and would like to get it regraded (will I, eh I doubt it though it's a thought)

It is generally wrong to use a graded coin as comparison to specifically grade another coin in hand, however it does give a general idea.. I'll post a PCGS AU58. I think you can see a bit of flatness just over the ear which as best I can tell matches yours? You be the judge. Doesn't seem worth it to resubmit. It is a very nice original coin.

I do see what you are referring to and I would agree it may not seem to be worth it. Still I would have graded your coin better than AU:)

IMO, the spots on the reverse will keep it from getting a 65. I have no idea how much luster your coin has. Both you pictures look like your coins have absolutely no luster. But you say "especially considering the amount of luster this coin has"? Regardless, I think your coins was probably net graded. At least in the pictures, I see wear on the cheek and beard.

rLm Sorry man I just noticed I have been calling you rIm!

I'll start a new thread since I am getting ready to shoot another batch of coins. I'll do the 14 LWC under different lighting. Those spots arent visible. I don't remember whether I shot that one axial or not.. I have a lot of trouble with consistent shots of brown coins that I am happy with.

I don't think the reverse hurts so much as the mark on the cheek. That is one of the prime areas. Regardless, you have played along with my "Guess the grade". You know how hard is it to grade from pix and particularly when you are not familiar with the photography. From what I can see in your pix, I think they would give that a 62/63. If it is AU, I would go 58.
