I don't like the coin. The "4" in the date appears misplaced and none of the mint mark locations appear to match. The 1st "1" of the date on the OP's coin appears to tall. Following is an overlay of the whole coin. Next are some independent overlays performed on the date aspect of the design. As you can see to make the overlay fit the gray circle around the overlay becomes significantly skewed. The red circle is the true circle. Possible candidates for altered date.
Keep in mind that the the coin is not necessarily parallel with the camera. I had to correct for that and the rotation. The second set of new photos are the closest to parallel.
Now that I am back from church, I can take a closer (and longer) look at this. It appears that the second 1 is slightly off and the interior of the D has a different e. Both *could* be attributed to damage, but I am seeing a lack of metal movement on the 1. The deformity on the horizontal bar of the 4 looks like it is due to a hit at the corner. Otherwise the relative placement of everything is an exact match. If this is indeed an altered 1914 D, it is one of the most advanced (if not the most advanced) I have seen. I’m still entertaining the *possibility* of it being good, but I am still very wary/suspicious of it and would not buy it.
I changed the angle of the overlay image slightly. The second 1 lines up much better now. As stated earlier, the other inconsistencies have clear metal movement suggesting impact damage.
The doubled vest still doesn't look correct nor the crooked L. Inless some one can find a die that matches.
Doesn’t it seem like the bottom of the second “1” is a bit lower than the first “1”? That wouldn’t seem right compared to the other legitimate 1914-D’s Posted here.
