One could buy a pretty solid collection by selling one of these. I'm in the same boat as you. Now I'd better start buying my lottery tickets and hope by some miracle I get a winning ticket.
I think we the people should own all five as they should all be government property. The government has no problem seizing 1933 double eagles or the 1974 D aluminum cent so why these get a pass I'll never know.
Actually, they should be confiscated and destroyed as the counterfeits that they are. The double eagles and the cent were at least minted under proper authority.
Well the double eagles yes but not the 1974 D Aluminum cent according to the government that was never authorized as they were only striking trials in Philadelphia. I don't think they should be destroyed but rather confiscated and added to the collection at the Smithsonian so all Americans can enjoy them.
and struck as trials under the authority of the mint--not by a couple of guys who snuck into the press area at night and ran off a few coins for themselves.
Once the government decided not to pursue getting them back a long time ago they should have forfeited any legal claim to confiscate them now. How would you like to be someone who spent millions to obtain one and then have the government decide to confiscate it? At the time they surfaced the government had the opportunity to retrieve them but didn't. They are now a part of history and should remain so.
