PCI holders are known for creating some crazy colors but I've never seen a Buffalo in one. Paddy is the PCI expert so he'd know for sure if it's holder created. Would be even better if the slab said "100% white" on it like some of the crazy PCI toners do
First of all Eddie you shouldn't assume especially if you know nothing of what you're replying to! There's been hundreds of post here on CT on old Anacs slabs, PCI slabs known for coins toning in them Not only tonning but some fantastic colors and patterns. As another member has stated these slabs at times have made the notation of 100% white., and the coin in the slab toned. All medals tone in different ways... I recall my mom who hated her rose pattern silver ware service. Long before tarnx dip or a dishwasher other than her....bring out the flat wear only happened 3 times a year Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving she loved the Hunt brothers! As dad sold all the silver and decades of cleaning silver 3 times a year was over, plus there was enough money to go to both Ireland, and Hawaii. The two TPGs you name will never get their hands on this or any other slabs that are in my collection until after I am gone. First of all they are part coin collecting history ,and second the "TWO BIGGIES" are afraid of making a call on a toned coin in fear they can't tell AT from NT. And again this topic has been beaten like a dead horse. My imagines may not be the best but the colors described are spot on.and they are natural for a coin sitting in a slab known for toning coins for the last 20 +/- years. That said it was not baked in a potato, baked in an oven, dipped or treated, as it has been in the same place for two decades....at which that time toned coins didn't comand a premium. I have seen in the last 9 months both NGC and PCGS bag quite a few coins .....why well they have screwed the pooch so much they are scared to make a call on something that doesn't matter to them....after all they already have cashed your check.
Now @heavycam.monstervam post the old Anacs soap bar slab Morgan with the copper sun on the reverse. I sold this coin to Jason he really wanted it perfect target toning dead center on the reverse copper color. Not dipped most probably in the slab 20 plus years... One other note for a 13 D the luster on this coin is unreal! And would say in hand it is a 66 easy with the luster, and strike......
Gotta be something like that cuz i think it would hurt your eyes looking at it in a lope. Like staring at the sun
That is the 1st toned Buff, ive seen in a PCI slab. Probably the most pronounced tone on a nickel ive ever seen... All hail @Paddy54 Were not worthy. Were not worthy....
On the road, for the next 4 days or so... BTW, that has to be tempting to send that thing in to PCGS for crossover.>> I bet it could pull a MS67 !!!
Know the deal with the tpgs. I have the 1880 trade dollar I paid $4k in an old white anacs I can’t get a straight grade on as it’s questionable color every time. And it’s a classic album toner
That is a newer generation of PCI (after the classic green era). While quite a few of these are "optimistically" graded, there are plenty of gems to be found. Nice coin @Paddy54 !
