I came across this in the junk silver bin at my local gold trader. From what Ive read....1912 is a key date. I'm just wondering what I could possibly fetch for this coin if I were to sell it? Unfortunately,I'm almost sure it has been cleaned, and it isnt in the best shape to say the least .
Open up your Redbook and you'll see that the 1912 is very common. Don't have A Guide Book of United States Coins yet, even after all the recommendations posted on CT? It's the best $10-15 you'll ever spend on the hobby BTW: The 1912-S is a key date. (The Redbook will even show you where to find the mm) Hope this helps, and maybe other new collectors reading this thread will benefit as well
Here is a Mint State 1912-D nickel which shows you the mint mark. It's under the dot on the left side of the reverse. Oddly enough, this coin is cheap (only worth $1 - $2) in the well circulated grades, but expensive in Mint State.
The 1912-D is collectible (although this condition destroys the value.) I'm not seeing the mint mark. Maybe a clearer photo.
