I have the opportunity to purchase this (yes it's raw) and I was hoping someone could help with the grade and possible value. Did my homework on these before looking to purchase one but my grading skills are still a work in progress. I was thinking a higher AU, possibly a 58, and maybe $320 tops, am I close?

It just sold on ebay... are you just trying to see if you got a decent deal?

Yeah I did end up winning it. I tried posting this before I bid but it kept crashing my phone. Good deal or no?

Was that item number 332088090508? Nice looking coin but I don't think it will grade AU58. Looks like wear on the headband. Did you pay $375?

Paid $344. The strike looked crisp and I love the subtle toning.

I was a bidder on it. I really like the look, including the toning. You wanted it a little more than me though :)

Haha oh really? Well sorry, it's my first gold and the color just had me hooked!

I know you know what you're about, but that seller? Chancy proposition, man. :)

His coins are mostly fine. Sure, a few cleaned, etc, but just avoid those. These 2 came from him raw...

Well he does have a good return policy. I'll post photos once it is in hand.

Frankly, if @jwitten felt the coin worth bidding on, you'll be OK. :)

Both AU58, but I bought them for their toning.

My thoughts exactly, I gotta agree! Yep, @jwitten is the opposite of an Indian giver, he's and Indian getter! laughhard.gif

Great coins! Do you think this example is worth sending in?

Hmm. It was not enough toning for me to give a huge premium, so I doubt I would pay the extra for grading either.

You'll need at least MS62 out of it to recoup the cost of grading. Using PCGS Auction Prices Realized as a reference, if it's AU58 it's in the top 15 prices paid for one (out of 187 results) in the last 15 years. And none of them were raw.
