    Nope not MS anything...

Just goes to show that one era's horribly inflated FPG grade is another era's TPG grade...

Yes, it's the dark side portion of the spectrum of ACG collection... from when they started life as a reputable Grading Company, to the point where you supply the coins and label and they would seal anything in the slab.

They just might have the grade, but I think that one had a bad cleaning attempt. Really bad.

I don't think it would grade cleaned, but I think it would be "damaged" now

    Probably.

ACG itself started reputably, then discovered market grading... then, well, 'nuf said.

But they also did two other, um, services... for $25K (real money in the late 80s) they would set you up as your own xPG and sell you shells. For some per/coin fee, they would also encapsulate (EAAS - Encapsulation As A Service in today's parlance) whatever you wanted.

In this EAAS world, there were several FPGs and wanna-be TPGs (I think Condor says around 20). There were also some unlicensed usage (First Token is one I have an example of).

New to me, a pair of "Swinehart Numismatics" 1887 "Mint State" Morgan dollars showed up on eBay this month. The seller graciously split them so I could buy just one. Slab#2017.X40_ObvRev-Small.jpg

I'm sure it's been reassigned many many times since the.mid 80s. Do you have the same phone numbers from back then?

Well, there's a Swinehart Coin's [sic] in La Verne, CA, and that might well still have had a 213 area code in the 1980s. It's got a 909 number now.

True... there's a couple hits in various searches for what's a pretty unique name.

Two people became ANA members, one in 1990, one in 2000. But nothing in the CA Secretary of State Business search (probably predates the computerized records).

A couple auction records (eBay and here: https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/lot/34460284/LotDetail.asp?lid=34460284)

    etc.
