Recently sold on ebay and description reads in part "Here we have one uncirculated 1911-S Lincoln Wheat Cent." Opinions?

I'm pretty sure it would not even grade XF.

I once knew a local auction cataloguer who would have called that an unc. Yeah, he was blind too. He's dead now. His collection was sold under a beautiful hard-cover catalog. It was mostly junk with a few gems sprinkled in. It was the most tedious collection to work through I ever saw. He didn't even keep up with his personal hygiene, he was that into acquiring massive amounts of junk coins.

It's been circulated. Great date though.

The good thing about this seller's photos is you can easily tell what you're bidding on and this one is clearly a circulated details coin.

Yep, we have one here. It's not the one we're selling here with this picture, but we didn't quite say that, now did we? ;)

Like Kanga said. The coloring is suspicious too. I'd look at it as a details coin.

Many of this seller's coins appear cleaned. I've pretty much stopped paying attention to his offerings.

Just for fun, I thought a head-to-head comparison with an MS63 would be informative. Too bad the holder is so scuffed up and obscures the reverse, but you can see how much detail has been lost from the posted coin - and how far off the color seems to be. The fields above the date and below OF AMERICA seem especially beaten and flat.

I think that coin has seen quite an existence since it was UNC. Maybe even a few baths. A lot of people sell UNC or BU coins on ebay but buyer beware comes to mind. Not that this is always the case, but this is not one of em :)

Thanks to all who responded...and I agree, I think the coin is genuine, but likely cleaned and certainly circulated. I did not buy it, but it sold for $87.00 The seller does post a lot of coins like this. Best collecting to all.

Is this the seller where every coin he offers is an "Estate Find"?

Ot has had everything done to it, but be preserved. It WAS uncirculated once upon a time.
