Here's the sellers response to me asking what he did to the coin to make the coin appear the color it did in his listing and if the coin was the same coin. "I only had one 1909-s and that is the one in the photos and it's the one in your hands. My pictures sometimes have a pink background even though I use a white background and a soft white bulb. I don't cheat and I don't steal. " He has no return policy which on eBay is a joke. Waiting to hear back from him from the reply I sent him with the pictures I posted here on CT. Doctored coin of the year..... I think it just might be!
Last reply from the "Top Rated Seller" You have every right to think what you want, but I tell you once again, that is the coin in all the pictures I posted with this auction. "I don't cheat and I don't steal"! I'm thinking negative feedback and filing a dispute with eBay.
I have no doubt it is the same coin. That does not excuse the pictures. BTW, odds more favor you getting your money back if you conclude your dispute before you leave the feedback. At least then he has hope. And make sure you fill in the details. They can hurt as much as the feedback.
See. This is why I'm scared of death to do a big purchase on eBay. I've seen this coin. I would have been put in jail if that coin showed up looking like that. I hope you didn't pay MS for this.
Well after the threats of court I decided to keep the coin incase I needed it as evidence if I was to be taken to court. Better to be safe than sorry if I did have to show up in court over a feedback. Now here comes the stupid part, eBay removed the negative feedback I left. I contacted eBay to see why my feedback was removed, the lady I spoke with had no answers for me, so he told me that someone would contact me and explain what happened with the feedback as she told me it should not have been removed. Needless to say, I'm still waiting to hear back from them. So I guess if you cry and complain to ebay as a top rated seller- no matter how crappy of a seller you are, they'll remove the feedback. So everyone please spread the word not to buy from this seller, as he 1) takes awful pictures, 2) threatens court if you leave negative feedback, 3) won't refund your money no matter how wrong he is.
I have a hard time believing that the photos were juiced, at least in the classical sense, and think they're likely the result of poor technique. This ordeal was drawn out in another now-locked thread. http://www.cointalk.com/threads/eba...e-to-small-claims-court-over-feedback.239503/
I've never seen a "poor technique" resulting in a coin looking 20x better than it actually was. The guy is a crook.
Perhaps you should take another look at the OP's photos and then tell me that the seller's make it look "20x better"; this is simply untrue, and it’s entirely possible, even likely, that the coin received is better than what should have been expected based on the said photos. Now please understand that I am not disputing the fact that they are poor representations, nor am I condoning the seller's actions, but if you can be so bothered to look through and compare the images used in his other listings, this should suggest that they are not the work of someone trying to "juice" or intentionally misrepresent (especially when openly claiming a grade of "VF+ details"), but are more likely the result of incompetence and/or laziness. If the seller’s intent was to juice or enhance his images to make the coin appear to be something it’s not, he failed miserably.
Look at the back ground on both pics. Both pics were taking in the same spot but are complete diiferent in color. The filtered pics show that the obverse is lighter than the reverse, but under lope, it's completely opposite. The "opening claim" does not matter because that is just his opinion. Most people put bids on what they see. The pic was filtered. Period. I bet he couldnt duplicate those pics with just a camera and flash with just "white lighting" like he claimed.
