I tend to agree with this. The TPGs do often give grade bumps to key coins...but from what I have seen that if often limited to THE key coin of the series. The 1877 is the big dog when it comes to IHCs...not the 1909-S. Yes, its desirable and a key date...but its not the coin people flock to. So, I feel less confident this coin will benefit in that way. It's certainly not an AU. This coin, IMHO, is a solid VF. I could see it coming back VF35BN. If that makes it work sending in for grading to you...then do it. If not, then don't. Yes, there is a gouge on the reverse that they could call damage and give you a details grade. I'm not sold that will happen, but it's a risk. If it was my coin, I'd probably leave it as is...but that's just me.
In your indiscriminating eye it isn't. He has all his diamonds. In fact, VF35 on yours is a little on the generous side, IMO. You get a VF30 details, I'd say you did alright.
I bought it a part of a group. It isn’t a favorite of mine especially with the reverse stain. But I liked the 1909S and 1877 I picked up with it.
Let’s get a look-see at the 77. I hope you know they counterfeit those something terrible. We’ll give it the old going over for you, no charge.
Charlie is the Star Kist Tuna! Lol and I don't know about i2i but my garbage is collected on Tuesday and Friday before 9 AM. Does that help? Lol
A 1909-S is one of the keys to the IHC set. If it were mine, for peace of mind I would get it slabbed by NGC or PCGS.
1909-S's certainly do not grow on trees.....though the author of this thread's 09-S appears to possibly have fallen high from one at one time. Only joshing, i2i. Yeah, why not get it graded? It's not a bad coin at all. You might be in for a nice little surprise, i2i. Good luck!
