I don't know if the gold stuff is crazy in 1909,like some crazy piece like an 1893-s dime ?

I'm thinking if this guy wants to complete the 1909 Gold part of in PCGS MS-64 +....that's a lot of $$$$. I'd have to look it up,,,,7 figures seems probable.

Is it wrong to become aroused looking at just the pennies alone?

    Beautiful coins. Some undergrades too.

Not at all. It's just wrong to call them pennies.

Thanks, you do have a pretty sweet 1898 set though and there are some monster coins there!

Yeah, it's just too bad Dale's quarter set wasn't trueviewed and uploaded to the PCGS Registry before selling, like Sunnywood's set was done. I look at that set all of the time, wow wow wow wow!!!! Even got to see it in person once, super wow!

True, and generally some good advice. Probably not if you're looking for a quick flip, but if you're looking to build a nice set over several years then very true. I did pay some significant premiums for some of the coins because I didn't just want a high grade example, but I wanted a nice example for that high grade. For example, I've seen dozens of 1909 Indian Head Cents in MS66RD and the prices range from around $1000 up to $2000 which is a huge spread. I looked at many before I found the coin I have now and I definitely paid towards the high end of the price range but I think it was well worth it.

Now that plus grading has started it will be easier to spot the coins at the higher end of a given grade but I think the premiums will be much much more now that a plus grade carries some extra weight in the set registries.

I was collecting the gold as well for awhile and just about got them all:

I gave up on it though as I really like the high grade stuff and MS64+ gold of 1909 isn't cheap. I paid over $10k just for the 1909-S $5 in MS63 and though I never did buy one, the 1909-O $5 in AU58 is over $15k and in MS63+ it is six figures for just the one coin. I really couldn't afford to do the set of gold in the grades I like so I gave up on it to focus on the main set.

When you look at many high grade S-mint Indian Cents (1908 & 1909) they will be of a lighter gold/straw color copper vs. the orange-red copper color found on the cents from Philadelphia. They just used a different batch of copper for those cents in S.F. Also, the woodgrain look is really picked up and even exaggerated a bit in the photo of that 1909-S IHC. Though the look isn't for everyone, and slightly darker red and less wood-grained examples are available, I really liked this one so I picked it up. I bought it from Rick Snow who put his photoseal sticker on it and it was in an old green holder too so I never doubted the grade of it.

I'll sell it right now to you for $250k ;) Heck, even half of that! Not sure what it's really worth all together, I just know what I have into the set and it's not six figures.

I thought so too. But when I sent it in for SecurePlus and TrueView photos last year, I also had all of the coins regraded. Only my 1909 Lincoln got bumped up from MS66RD to MS66+RD. I really thought my 1909 IHC, 1909 VDB, 1909-S Lincoln, 1909-D quarter and 1909-O Half had great shots at pluses as well, or even a point upgrade but it just didn't happen. Oh well... I could always try again some day I guess. Some have advised me just to send them to get CAC stickers instead (many coins already had them before I sent them in for regrade) but I haven't decided on that yet either.
