Okay, I checked some things, and compared...It looks legit... I'd like a picture with the flash of your coin, just to see the luster, if you don't mind.
T$, There is a specific reason why the slab says SAINT on it. In 1907, both the Liberty Head and Saint Gaudens Double Eagles were minted. PCGS uses the word SAINT on the label and NGC uses SAINT GAUDENS on the 1907 issues only. Before you tell another member that his coin (or slab) may be counterfeit, you should make absolutely sure that your information is correct. This is not a counterfeit coin and the slab looks fine to me as well. IMO, Hobo's inquiry about your knowledge of coins was warranted after making a false proclamation about the authenticity of the OP's coin. You get angry when people question your numismatic knowledge. I promise you that it will only get questioned when you give them a reason to do so. In this case you gave Hobo a reason, and he did.
Hey right here... The coins do not display the name "St Gaudens". If you have a Red Book you could easily look that up. Yeah, he isn't talking about the slab...The coin is what he is talking about. If he said, the slab, I'd be okay, and look it up. I thought they all said St Gaudens or had the series and number. But I guess not.
Do yourself a favor and stop trying to win an argument. You made a mistake by telling the OP that his coin was counterfeit and that he got ripped off. That annoyed Hobo, myself, and probably every other member of this forum who realizes that what you did reflects poorly on the Cointalk community as a whole. Besides, how was Hobo supposed to know that you were talking about the slab and not the coin. Perhaps you should slow down a little and ensure that your posts are accurate and meaningful. That will impress folks much more than being the top poster each day.
I have done alot of searching after starting this thread, and I think T$ may have motivated me to do so, but it did suck having the first person to fire back and tell me my coins a fake. So thanks for every ones input, and lets not make a big deal out of this. Just so ya'll know I have made an appointment with a certified PCGS distributer that I have done most of my buisness with, and I'll let ya'll know what he says.
T$, You need to take a chill pill. Seriously. TEN replies to my post border on a temper tantrum. Like Lehigh said, your comment was ambiguous and I misinterpreted what you were trying to say. I thought you were saying Saint Gaudens COINS had the words Saint Gaudens on them. How was I to know you meant the slab, not the coin? Read your post again and perhaps you will see the ambiguity. OK, first thing you say is "1907 Saint?" Here you are clearly talking about the COIN (or so it seems to me). Next you proclaim the coin to be a fake. (I assume you are still talking about the COIN here.) Then you say, "I thought all said ST Gaudens on them." Are you still talking about the COINS or did you somewhere shift gears to start talking about SLABS? If you changed to SLABS you failed to let anyone know of the change. THAT is why I thought you were saying the COINS had St Gaudens on them. I think most reasonable people would have reached the same conclusion based on the way you wrote your post. Remember this - YOU may know what you mean to say when you write something but someone reading the piece only has your words to read. If your written words are ambiguous someone reading them may interpret them in a way you did not intend. When someone misinterprets another person's written word the blame lies with the writer, not the reader. If you would take a few extra seconds to read over your posts and make them unabiguous you will 1) avoid situations like this where someone misinterprets what you are saying and 2) make a better impression because your written words will not be ambiguous. That is some excellent advice from Lehigh. Most CoinTalk members respect QUALITY over QUANTITY. That goes for coins as well as posts on the board. At the moment you are averaging 29.45 posts per day. You will gain more respect by concentrating on the QUALITY of your posts rather than the QUANTITY.
Perhaps a little anger management is in order. You will gain a lot more respect here by having reasoned discussions than by having emotional outbursts. Again, Lehigh nailed it. You proclaimed the coin to be a fake based on a false assumption. It's one thing to wonder out loud if it could be a fake but you lose a LOT of respect around here when you tell someone their coin is a fake based on an incorrect (and easily determined) assumption. A mistake like that is harmful to the poster who may think you know what you are talking about; it is harmful to you because you lose credibility, and it is harmful to CoinTalk because it calls into question all answers and opinions posted here.
That is such an amazing coin! I wish I could find one for $1400. That is a STEAL for 1907. Congrats!! Jim
Congratulation man ! I wish my budget was a tad bigger to buy expensive stuff like that , but for the moment it's a no go
Very nice Saint! Most definitely real. A 1908 $20 Saint was my first BIG gold coin, and there is nothing like holding that in my hand for the first time. :mouth: Congratulations on owning an awesome piece of history.
I don't know much, I am really new. But, I have a 1907 Saint Gaudens and went to the PCGS site and typed in the bar code and it showed me that it was certified and the value. You probably done this already. Renee
Ya, it was valued at $2000, so I do believe that I got a pretty good deal. I just got an email from the mint saying that my 09 Ultrahigh relief is on its way. Man I can't wait. I'm going to try and get one every tax return, untill I have 1 from every year. I'm new to collecting, and I'm working on a pretty good dime collection. those are much more affordable. Well most of them. I dont sappose anyone has a 1916 D Mercury they want to get rid of for really really cheap.
I was tickled when I found mine, my grandfather gave it to me and he gave me a No Motto one, and I think I have another. I never thought that I would collect coins, but since I got his collection my husband is addicted and I am starting to be. Have a great day! Renee
Tell me about it. :rolling: I can't stop, looking and searching, reading, and searching some more. I just can't stop.:goofer: It's like none of my other hobbies even exist. :computer: My wife is starting to get on board with me, but its a slow process. I came home one day and said "Babe look I got a great deal. Check it out 2 rolls of dimes for $100." She said:loud: " WHAT!!! you better take them back." So I explaned to her the hole pre-65 silver thing, and next thing I know shes got all of our change dumped out on the kitchen table.Kiss That was nice seeing her a little excited. All we found was a couple of bicentinial quarters. I told her to look out for buffalo nickles and she found a hole bunch.....of new ones LOL.
When my husband gets home he will play with the kids, eat, and then he's gone! I wasn't happy about getting his collection at all, specially when I found out how much my husband was coming home with. My only thoughts were we are gonna have to get a safe (spend money on that) have to come up with a place to store all of it (no room in my house) and that it was gonna be a big mess! I am really happy about all of it now. My papa said he is gonna continue buying and send them to me, my husband said we need to find the coins we want and try to drop hints so he will buy them. Kind of mean, but a great idea!
