    1907 2 1/2 dollar coin. I'm pretty sure it's a proof. Very shiny. Any idea of the worth? photo 2 (2).JPG photo 1 (2).JPG

The texture and the details don't look right. Where did you get it?

    Clearer pix would help...

Hopefully these pictures are clearer. The coin was my father's. He was into collecting. DSCN2603.JPG DSCN2602.JPG

Not a proof imo (the proof mintage was 154). The coin does look funny but maybe that's just the picture making the surfaces look strange like that or it's a fake. As for worth the 1907 is literally the most common date of the series and thus carries little numismatic premium unless an extremely high MS conditional rarity. The pictures need to be clearer to determine that.

Those pics still make me think fake. Mushy details = probably fake

I'm in agreement with @jwitten, the more I look at the images the more I'm thinking it's a counterfeit. Although I'd still like to see clearer in focus centered images of obverse/reverse.

Is this a coin that is commonly/worth it to fake?

Also what is going on where I put the red circle on the reverse? Is that a spot where another color metal is showing through? quartereagle1907.png

Just checked the coin, speck of dirt. The coin passed the magnet test. I have a gold testing kit but would rather not scratch it just yet.

The coin looks so different in each picture.. weird. The area circled looks like just some debris or something. The texture still looks very odd to me, but the last picture makes the detail look less mushy. Possibly just a polished coin?

Whatever you do, do not scratch it to test it.

I think I may send it in to NGC. Anyone know what happens if you unintentionally send in a fake coin?

Nah, just kidding, they send it back in just a coin flip and tell you it's not genuine

    Yes fakes are incredibly common

Many fakes are made of actual gold though. And how did the denticles under the date seemingly disappear in the last pictures?
