The piece looks favorable to a PCGS PF61 quarter eagle that I no longer own. My grade for the coin if I had been asked to guess blindly would have been PF62.

It is only slightly smaller than a lincoln cent and cent scratched up like that would not get a PF-63

    They are about dime sized

So would a modern proof dime with those scratches grade as a 63?

Not a clue. Even Very light marks show up big time on a proof.

Sorry, it appears to be over graded

Your comparing apples to cantaloupes here guys. Classic proof coins are not graded on the same standard as modern proof coins are. Like it or not... it's the truth.

I'm saying based on proof classic gold standards, I think the grade is a bit generous. It is a nice coin, and I would NOT go as far as some would in suggesting that the piece might details grade, but PF63 seems lenient.

Gold is also a softer metal and that is a consideration as well. Again, I agree that it is overgraded, but I think the comment likening it to a details graded piece is a bit too harsh.

Not seeing in hand I'd call it accurate
