Once again, how can you tell for sure that it is brass, and once again color is NOT an acceptable answer. Brass can have a WIDE range of colors depending on the percentages of copper and zinc used. Bronze can have the same wide range depending on the pecentages of copper and tin. Plus cleaned copper or bronze can easily look like 70:30 yellow brass.

Most conventional coin dealers know diddly-squat about errors. I bet none of them weighed the coin, let alone performed a specific gravity test. The opinion of a conventional coin dealer is about as credible as that of a random passer-by.

I read on another forum that you sent it to ANACS....
    And I agree with Mike...

I do have one question...you have been saying that maybe it was a brass planchet for another country....have you ever looked at coins that were struck on planchets for other countrys....the planchets for other countrys (at least the ones I have seen) are always smaller than the US planchet....but this coin has all of the detail...so IMO I think that kicks it out.

This is not true. There are a fair number of full-diameter Lincoln cents struck on foreign planchets. If the planchet approximates the diameter of a cent planchet, then the finished coin will have the same diameter as a Lincoln cent. For example, there are quite a few 1919 Lincoln cents struck on copper-nickel planchets said to correspond to those used for Argentina 10 centavos coins.

Still, the majority of off-metal / foreign planchet errors are undersized.

absolutely correct foundinrolls... not only was the color balance or the reds and blues 'adjusted' but the contrast as well. People who intentionaly do this to decieve others disgust me....

I agree with the photo alteration, I just don't get why. Why post it here? Attention? I can see a con trying to pawn it off on ebay, but here, in such a knowledgeable community of coin collectors? Only "gain" will be everyones distrust and ridicule.

Still a long ways to April 1st.....

The question is, when it comes back from ANACS in a body bag, will he tell us?[IMG]

And even more importantly, will he tell us why? [IMG]

Well Roy....it might not be BB.....it might get slabbed as a 1906 IHC....as one person showed the color changed....but then again I can't say for sure or prove that he did change the color....but I am almost 100% sure that there isn't such a think as he says he has...

Why should he tell??...well if he is a man of truth...he will tell us that we are right and show of a photo of the BB or slab what ever one....

If it was plated, it would weigh more than a normal cent.

And so are many of the guys on here....they are know all over the Coin Collecting World....and coins aren't artifacts...

Ah...but they did....the aluminum cent was known by alot of people...just no any found till this year...
I never said I didn't trust you....but if you were a coin collector you would know how this sounds....people for years have found "brass" or silver or gold or such cents or quarters and they have all either been proved or shown that they are plated...

Ah....what was the weight???...a plated coin would weight more...

In the interest of fairness, a number of full-sized, brass foreign planchets are known among Lincoln cents. I have not heard of any among Indian cents, but that doesn't mean all that much. Still, the vast majority of full-size brass-colored cents are discolored, painted, or plated.
