Ricky, Have your father put his next $5 towards a "Red Book". Here's a direct link to buy it: http://www.amazon.com/2012-Guide-United-States-Coins/dp/0794833497 This is what it looks like:
I am not sure what legwork you are talking about? It is easy to estimate the cost ($1 to $2) and you can see the coin runs around G-4. Yes he will learn to post better pictures as he gets older. For a nine year old I think he is doing good. I can't say the same for all of the adults. He has asked a couple of simple questions that required a simple response. There are a lot of these posts. It is really simple - if you aren't interested in the thread, then skip it and move on. Ricky - in the other thread on the 1901 IHC I pointed to a grading guide from Rick Snow. It is a free PDF and will help you learn how to grade. There are also some links on Rick's front page where he has some u-tube videos talking about grading. Give them a try. Some of the common dates when you get down to the AG/G-4 range will vary widely.
I couldn't agree more. It seems either a lot of people here have forgotten what it was like when they first started out, or they were born with the knowledge at hand. I guess parts of the community will never take the gentleman's approach to having patience and offering help. Hopefully the immature actions of those few won't drive you away, Ricky, as I'm sure it won't be long before you're teaching them. Guy
