Back to topic. Love this find. But why does the top of the head look odd.....must be me.

I need sleep. It's me. My CTX is calling me!

I looked at my barber quarter....maybe because yours is quite a bit better.

    All good Dr.!

That is an amazing key date. It would probably come back as VF-35 Details, because of the Environmental Damage. :( :(

    Amazing find.

I have found a number of Barbers detecting, but, nothing like this.

    Congrats.

Really awesome find, but I think they'll put environmental damage if they grade it.

If it's authentic it will definitely receive a grade, but it will without question receive a "details" or "genuine" slab grade.

That is a fantastic find for a coinshooter! Notwithstanding the environmental damage and scratch, I think that the grade is VF30/35. My feeling is that the patination that is evident will prove to show to the Grading service that this coin was in the ground for a long time as opposed to having been acid treated. Ian Russell @ GC will know how to submit to NGC or PCGS at the proper level to get it slabbed with a Details Grade.

Ok guys! Here's what Ian at great collections just sent me. Your thoughts? I dont have a pic of the holder so I'm wondering if it got a "details" holder or a "genuine" holder? and what's better?

1901-S 25c PCGS Genuine XF Details (Damage). Coin number is 28927827

You just said it is in a "details" holder... ;)

Basically details vs. genuine are two different ways to say the same thing... that it is a problem coin. "Details" grades, as you see, come with a letter grade while the old genuine holders only told you the coin was genuine.

Looks like you're a big, BIG winner on this one! :)

Details or not, that's a five-figure coin. It's pretty nice looking for a "damaged" specimen; between that and the high rarity/demand, I'll bet it gets close to clean F/VF money.
