1901 O Barber Quarter

Discussion in 'What's it Worth' started by er111a, Aug 24, 2011.

  1. I stated that it might be VG but based on the pictures it could not be determined. Additionally, a Barber coin is graded on more than just the letters in "LIBERTY". Case in point the 1909 half dollars in which the die was reworked. That date tends to come with a strong "LIBERTY" in even the low grades.

    I agree.

    Everyone:

    For one thing:
    This is a $1/2.
    VG-8, trends $35

However, it looks to be about G+ or about a G-6.
    G-4 trends at 20

Well, I'd say for starters, if you're trying to sell this coin, take better pictures of it for the auction, perhaps pictures that provide more closeup details, etc. Also, perhaps instead of starting the price at $30.00, start it lower and let the demand from buyers raise it's price. Your auction is the exact type I like to just skip and look at the next one, horrible pictures, horrible starting price, etc. No pun intended of course, just honesty from someone who buys on eBay from time to time and always lurks on there. ;)

Also, your shipping and handling is sort of high I think. It shouldn't cost $4.75 to ship a half dollar, even with tracking and insurance.

Post better pictures to get a better idea of it's actual grade. Most from what I can tell, people are trying to sell these in Good condition from $18-$25, with apparently no nibbles or bites. The VG from what I can tell start anywhere between $20 and up, some loon was trying to sell his for $130 buy it now.

With better pictures, I might be interested. But with the current pictures, I'd make an offer of $15 bucks, especially if you're gonna charge close to $5 for shipping, but that's not a guarantee. ;)

I would agree with G+ - weak VG8. I believe you made a good deal. $40 dollar half here. At first I was confused because your thread says 1901-0 Quarter.

    I wouldn't pay $40 for a weak VG8 1901 O Half. I collect but I also don't like giving them extra money either. ;)

Looking at the pictures again, I can't make out if any "LIBERTY" is legible on the headband. I'd say it's a G3 or G4 if that's the case. It's got to have some portion of Liberty legible for me to make it a grade of VG or higher.
