18th Century Graffiti - Practical Purpose or Not?

    X graffito or not, that is a helluva coin. I’d make an exception to my “no problem coins in the primary collection” rule for something like that.

    It could be that. I have read that the British issued counterfeit Spanish Dollars when they were at war with them. The idea was to ruin the economy in Spanish colonies by "increasing" the money supply with fake coins. The British did the same thing to us during the Revolutionary War by making counterfeit Continental Currency. Unfortunately, the Continental Congress did that to themselves eventually.

    The idea of the scratch was to see if the silver color was only skin deep.
