I found a 1899 10 rouble gold coin and it is extremely damaged. I believe it is a fake but I'm am not familiar with foreign and gold coins. It is not magnetic so do they make fake counterfeits in gold or is it just brass or some other type of non magnetic metal.. anything anyone can add to this matter would be a big help. Thank you
who scratched it? If you did it, and it had been real you would have killed any value above melt looks like copper underneath the plate
Found in parkinglot. I think whoever lost it didnt care and tried to see if it was plated. Seems like a odd coin to counterfeit but I no almost nothing on foreign coins
This particular gold coin, especially this year is known for counterfeits. I can't quite tell what's wrong with it. What's the weight of this?
These plated bronze fakes, if my memory is correct, hit the west coast by the bag in the late 1970's. Story was that a Russian sailor was trying to sell a hoard of these that were claimed to have been smuggled out of the USSR. Eventually the burned buyers went to the police who confiscated a lot of these. A few were sent to Iola. I did a few specific gravity tests just for the record even though they were visually obvious fakes and the story was published in World Coin News.
