First of all, no one is trying to argue, and if anything, I believe the overall hope here was likely to help you understand what is both reasonable and acceptable, but think whatever you wish.

It seems a tad too convenient that only now the seller privately said MS63 while still publicly claiming AU, but I've no doubt she was happy to cancel since you weren't going to pay anyway; she really had no other choice, so don't act as if her willingness somehow justifies your irrational refusal to hold up your end of the deal.

Please, Sean, enjoy your hobby, but just not at the expense of others.

    NFN, BUT!

YOU opened the door with the above.

BTW, it's THEREFORE and not THIERFORE, and it's "E" before "I" not "I" before "E" in their, and you have used it incorrectly twice in this thread.

i agree that people should not bid on items if they are not sure about the items that they are bidding on and then don't want to pay for them. that being said, there are exceptions. if the seller did not describe the coin accurate, then the buyer should ask the seller to cancel the transaction. why should he spend money on returning the coin for a refund or accepting a coin that is not as described? and yes, he should have known that the coin was not MS before he bid on it, but he did not know. that still does not give the seller the right to list an AU coin as an MS coin. just a tip, most of the coins on ebay that are called MS coins by the sellers, they are not.

what does spelling have to do with the content of the thread? people often times pick on spelling errors when they don't have anything to add to the conversation.

what about the times when sellers request to cancel the transaction, saying that they (could not find the items), and then issue a refund?

Some sellers will do that. Some will also say they shipped an item and it got lost. A refund gets them out of the deal and there is no way to know if they are being truthful.

Would you go to a car dealership, and just pay for anything on the lot without test driving it, looking it over, or having a mechanic you trust to look the vehicle over?

    I wouldn't.

What the OP did was quite a bit different than what you're stating regarding sellers. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but the sellers aren't gaining anything if they cancel the deal and issue a refund.

But bidding on something, winning, and then deciding you're not going to pay for it, sorry that's just wrong.

The seller has re-listed the coin in question, and I can see very large and clear photos of both sides, as was present in the original listing the OP won, and each photo shows enough going on with the coin's condition that any first year collector could tell this is not a MS coin.

    Just saying!

And appear to be the very same photos used in the previous listing. Interestingly enough, a certain listing appeared Monday in which a couple of circ coins are offered with claimed grades well above what they clearly are; I cannot help but to wonder if the seller would see it as paying a lier if anyone bought based on these claims?
