Found this the other day for scrap price. Pretty beat up but nonetheless it is a 1897 S Barber! Now my question is if I ever sent it in to get graded as part of a lot it would probably come back detailed because of the scratches correct? Just making sure!

    Definitely. Best sold raw

    Well, that's a score. :)

Even at FR2 (my considered grade; obverse is too nice for P01) it's probably still a Details coin due to the reverse. Not that you should dump it as a result. :)

Not worth the price of having it graded.

I agree with calling it a DETAILS coin.
But I think it has a reasonable shot at being an AG-03.
    Why?
Because a LOT more weight is given to the obverse when grading.
Yes, the reverse is probably a FR-02.
But the obverse is probably a G-04.

Nice score. It won't grade but as a key date it has collector value way above melt.

Great find, it's always nice to score a key date or better date at melt value!
