When I saw this coin I thought it might be a fake. Comments from Numista 88,662,000 Pieces were withdrawn from circulation from 1909 to 1914 since they were easy to fake. Many of these withdrawn coins were used to mint the 20 Centesimi km#58 All measurements seem correct: Weight 4.2g (4.0g) Diameter 21mm Coin alignment ↑↓ Edge Milled Non Magnetic (Copper/Nickel) I would like some input from the membership as to how this might have happened and any other opinions about this coin. The details on this coin are very crude if you compare them with a genuine one. I think it is a replica/fake but still a nice piece of history. Ed
I've handled lots of the ones that were overstruck by the 20 centesimi, but I'm not familiar with the original coin. I see the doubled die on it, but I can't say if the coin posted in a genuine coin, or a counterfeit. It looks bad, but then it says 'withdrawn...since they were easy to fake"
The coin does look better in hand and would pass to a newbie collector maybe. I will put it in my collection and mark it as CONTERFEIT. I believe a fake one would be hard to come by. I still like the history of the coin. I also have some of the overstrikes and enjoy them. Ed
