How can one tell if a Morgan Dollar is a real coin or Fake ? By weight and diameter alone ??Can you tell by a Picture ? This is not my coin, awaiting the weight . Thanks in advance .

If the price is less than $10K, it is fake.

    If not, still fake

It is not a Proof. If it’s real, and it is a business strike, it would be the biggest numismatic news story and discovery of the year because all of the known 1895-P dollars are Proofs or circulated Proofs. The chances that this is genuine are zero.

These are known to have the mint mark removed to sucker someone into buying it. Could that be the case with this coin?

There’s a lot wrong with the overall look of this thing. It’s not genuine.

Pictures of a real proof and a business strike O I doubt this is a circulation strike with just a missing mint mark, the coin looks wrong completely. 20211026_084840.jpg 20211026_083155.jpg

The date position does not even come close to any of the 4 obverse proof dies or any of the branch mint issues for that date.
A first glance giveaway is the obverse stars look like marshmallows out of a box of lucky charms.

look at the eagle breast. for a Morgan Dollar to be in such condition the breast feathers are all mushy. Almost bet a magnet would stick to it. It's worth about $.50 to put in a belt Buckle ;)

Given the date, no mint mark and only minted in proof only, what do you think? If your still undecided look at the wear on the coin, specifically the hair and the eagles feathers. Still think it’s real? If you do please send me a PM. I have a bridge to sell. It even collects tolls.

I looked at the top half of the obverse picture as it was loading on my computer to see it as a fake. Lettering a little soft and there is something about the head the screams fake. Reverse lettering and eagle aren't right.

Another way to tell is to use a magnet. It does appear to be a fake, in my opinion. If you do not have it in hand, don't buy it! Good luck
