I wouldn't touch a high value coin that wasn't certified and from a known dealer. Counterfeit coins in counterfeit slabs are in the market. Be careful! I say known dealer not some guy that's been on Ebay for 5 years. If the coin is that expensive or rare the first question should way isn't it certified? There are a lot of rare coins that haven't been certified but, I would have to see it in hand before spending more than a few hundred dollars.

I'll admit that I currently have two bids on coins from the seller mentioned above. He must use the same photo technique on many of his coins for sale. He has a feedback score of over 15,400, and a 100% satisfaction, and free 30 day returns. He makes many allegations that his coins come from original rolls, original collection (whatever that means), sealed bags, etc.
Ebay virtually always supports the buyer in any disputes, so I feel a sense of protection as a buyer. So, we'll see . . .

My experience with seller was 12 cleaned peace dollars, 1 fake 1927 peace dollar & one 1935 peace dollar with heavy rim damage. all ordered at once and was sent in several packages over 3 weeks.

Seller fought me tooth and nail for refund having claimed they were "new items" and i opened the package(had to to actually open package to examine/see the coins)
Seller tied to quietly just refund me 50% then claimed i damaged then(never happened) took 4 weeks for Ebay to refund me after opening claims twice on each coin!

As for Feedback "All was removed by Seller" even neutral feedback, Ebay told me it was special seller privileges and nothing they could do about it. you cannot leave anything but positive feedback so seller gets unfair advantage over other sellers and buyers are tricked into thinking the seller is honest and just found some old rolls.

A member on CCF had the same experience. The auction photos were photo shopped to remove a few rather large hits on the cheek of a Morgan. He had to fight to get a full refund, 50% from the seller after claiming the buyer damaged the coin and ebay stepped up and refunded the remainder. This seller is a scum bucket to be avoided. As one reason for the return of an item on eBay is "item does not match the photos," and that's enough to get your money refunded.

Up until the seller claims you damaged the coin after receiving it apparently. We have two documented cases of this from Canyon City so far..Not worth the hassle in my opinion.
Looking at other auction pictures I can see the tell-tale signs of post processing to remove surface marks. It may not be all but it's enough for me to not trust this person.

Look at this auction obverse photo as an example.... He's wiped out the lower eye detail removing a hit.

I concur 100% with your opinion. I don't need to touch the stove to know it's hot.

The background reminds me of a not so great ebay seller. Maybe I'm wrong.
I would pass. That photo looks milked as well.

  11. What do you mean guarantee? No one that I know of will guarantee how a coin gets graded. I know they have a 30 day return policy. Could you give me a bit more information on what you mean by guarantee? I'm guessing you mean that I would take it to a local coin dealer and have him confirm it's genuine?

Stupid me... I found it. I was searching the wrong date. Looks like a great deal but this dealer scares me having so many uncs... unless he won casino millions back in the fifties and cashed out in coins. So far I'm just watching... not buying, this dealer and the feedback. We'll see how this coin does on Sunday.

Ridiculous. The coin sold for $7,600.

  14. Quick update--that coin sold for $7,600. That's insane. You can get an MS64+ fully graded coin for $3,600. WOW

My only question is. Does it look cleaned. Coz you can’t in god’s world get so lucky to find such a coin raw. Unless it’s grandma’s. Does it look cleaned. Wouldn’t you clean the reverse first. Are those clean marks on obverse

I can see the hits on this seller's offerings if I look carefully. I think they are mostly "hidden" by the lighting. I forgot to offer my opinion on the grade. I see a lot of hits so would only give it no more than 62.
