1893 S Authenticity Help

    I think we substantially agree. My point about buying in a slab from a very reliable dealer is more for vindication of authenticity, and a guarantee of genuineness. Grading on Morgans, as we know, gets extremely subjective. Looking at the pictures of the aforementioned coin, there would be enough doubt in my mind about authenticity. As regards grading, I would have no doubt that it would be a details coin, if I were sure it was genuine. I am undecided as to whether or not it is genuine. I would have to see it to know more.

    I 100% agree. And don't get me wrong, I like slabs and I tend to buy high dollar coins slabbed (the exception being when I buy nice German coins...I will buy raw coins from Ron Guth as I totally trust him). I just think that slabs can be a crutch sometimes but they do have a very valuable place in this hobby.
