    About what is this worth? Both sets of photos were taken with different lights.

    No, even though it looks to have met its match with a cheese grater, it is still worth $100-150 conservatively. It's still a key early commem with a modestly low mintage.

    I think the range is pretty accurate; XF details or thereabouts IMO.

    I would venture to guess he got it under melt. If that's the case he got a screamin' deal.

    You would both be paying the same thing it was free :). BTW it's not for sale.
    The story is on that thread about your best finds, but I couldn't find it so I will say it again (simplified):
    Someone I knew gave me their childhood collection for free, and I found this in it :).
