Thanks Prolawn. I wasn't talking about getting all 200 morgans graded. I was just asking if its worth it to regrade the 1893 CC MS64 by PCGS
I know you were talking about the 93-CC and i still suggest you post pics if you buy this collection or if you can before you buy the collection! It's your best bet there are a multitude of coin dealers on this forum and the advice they can give you on a grade does wonders!
FYI Interestingly, Blue sheet indicates a PCGS piece is at $5,700 and an NGC at $6,000.00 I think one would be hard pressed to find one offered in MS64 at those prices, and the grey sheet prices being more factual.
I think i will buy the collection. I will rty for it at $7000 and I'll get pics up if i do. Thanks for all the help
Not exactly. The prices listed in the Grey sheet are for Dealer to Dealer wholesale market, as sight seen. The coins may be either Raw or Certified . The prices listed are the highest reported Bids and the lowest legitimate Ask .
I would think it's worth the regrade. Anacs typically very tough on grades above the others in the big 3.
If you are good at grading coins and think it would grade out the same by one of the big Two PCGS or NGC i would go for it "Crack it and resubmit"
Anacs I personally think Anacs is the most reliable of any of the graders, however I think they are also the toughest
So far this is what I can see based on the prices here. The coin is worth close to 8K if it is a true MS 64, if it is MS 63, cut that in half. There are 200 more Morgans with a melt value of $4,700 So worse case scenario is: It is an MS63 worth 4,000, and there is $4,700 in melt bullion. so you're still looking at $8,700 ($700 profit) and that's assuming that every other Morgan Dollar is a cull and only worth melt (which is hard to believe) so theres probably more profit on top of the $700 that I mentioned above. This opinion is strictly based on the numbers that have been posed in this thread. I know next to nothing about Morgan dollars, or how to grade them, nor how strong the market is or how easy they are to flip. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Ok here is my analysis: Blue sheet price for your coin in a PCGS holder: $5,175 In a NGC holder: $6,000 In ANACS: $4,000 So, my opinion is to crack it out if it could go MS-64 by NGC because they have the HIGHEST value. But, if you think it could go less, LEAVE IT ALONE! Don't have a coin go down in value. If it goes to 63, you'll be out money. SO, my advice is simply this: get pics and post them here or go to your local dealer. This could mean profit or loss to you, so don't offer any money yet unless your sure.
While the guides say that's true, past auction results say otherwise. Looking on Heritage, it seems the PCGS '93-CC in 64 always sell for more. Doesn't make much sense, when you consider PCGS has graded almost 3 times the number of 64's NGC has.
