1891 IHC PMD or Broken punch

    Interesting in that it doesn't look like a hit , and a broken punch would mimic the punch where I don't think this one does . Maybe a small lamination error ?

    Or the 9 took a hit at the top and part of the 9 cracked off due to a bad planchet like Angelo said .

    Interesting! I will go with some kind of Lamination also. That line flowing downward from the right top of the 9 toward the rim makes me think that. Would that area be incuse?

    Also, This IHC date reminded me of an old kids joke - Why was 6 afraid of 7?.. Because 7 8(ate) 9 :D

    This one stumped me,I picked it up from Brian as I wanted to see it in hand. Not that it's worth a lot just was wondering what caused this. I did give her a soak yesterday to clean up some of the gunk for a better look see. What ever the cause it's been there for a long time .
