It would be an interesting factoid. I've seen a few mint reports posted on VAMworld2 that listed the number of obverse and reverse dies used. Here is a link to one posted by Roger B. for the San Francisco mint 1896-97. I think (could be wrong) that this information was retrieved from the Newman Numismatic Portal. For the Eagle that year 1 obverse and 2 reverse dies were used.

    Coin looks fine . . .

    Clarification . . . not fine in grade . . . fine for authenticity.

I think RWB researched and verified original Mint info @ Govt. Archives and published it.

I have it as 2 OB and 3 Rev.

I am astoundingly incorrect, though, at an astoundingly high 90+%, so....

I do not collect gold but have been collecting for many years. First, coins are made by hand and mechanical methods. Many of the mint marks back then were hand stamped. So you will have variations. They minted 103732. So, they did have variations then and even today with production. If you know someone [expert]who you can look at it before you buy it would be a great idea. If in doubt have it certified. Remove the doubt. In our club, we have one of the best expert in the hobby. Many in our club ask him at our meeting of their coins and buy his books "Cherry Pickers Guide".

Not every valuable or special coin is in a slab. Once saw a PCGS forum thread in which a proof Barber Half was bought raw from an old collection, sent in, graded PR68+. Most early copper collectors and many early silver collectors prefer to have their coins raw as well - there are some astounding large cents that are not in slabs.

We have to start somewhere right?
I looked for almost an hour for the example you posted.
I wonder for the rest of you, Are you more interested in your social reaction than the Coin Posted?

    he/she still hasn't produced.
    Still Baseball has useful information.
He/she thinks they are PCGS reincarnated.
