Here's how I study coins these days: rather than lose my eyesight staring through a loupe, I take a really detailed picture with a tethered 36mpx dSLR and a very sharp macro lens. The final picture corresponds to a 32X microscope shot--but a much larger field of view--and consistent sharpness too. That way, I can put my coins away and study the pictures--it's much safer that way. This particular coin has a lot of luster, but I shot it for details using a diffuse light source. The RPD and MPDs stand out pretty well. Click on the pic to see full resolution.
