Yes. The "V" formed by the bottom of the neckline points to the gap in the denticles. From there, move over two denticles and the normal position of the left edge of the 1 is above the third denticle (L/R posiiton) and about halfway between the neck and rim in height (H/L position). If you have a good shot, position within the described position can also help. ie Is the left foot of the 1 on the left, middle or right side of the third denticle. Does the inner or outer edges of any part of the date lineup between or to the left or right of the denticle below it? It's basically the same aid as the Copper specialists use on middle and late dates.
Jello. The neck "Vee" is used to determine the lateral placement of the date. When you look at the left-side base of the "1", anything over the 3rd denticle (from the neck "Vee") is considered a normal date placement. If the "1" is to the left, it is a near date, and to the right is a far date. A lot of times, the date placement can help to identify a specific VAM by eliminating those that do not apply. Chris
you are right this coin does not show all the other diagnostics for either of these the 28 or 30, but it does appear to have the inverted last 8. these were the only two I found that included the 8
