I get you are just trying to help, but I mean I am asking one moderator a question directly, if he felt it was out of line I know Matt well enough to know he would just PM me the price if he thought I was seriously a buyer or seriously interested in that way. So we have Mod #1 already addressing the matter. Super Mod #2 arrives AKA Doug and literally 8 posts before yours, says the same thing. Thats 2 moderators and now you, all policing me on something that is trying to benefit the community and myself by trying to understand a difficult pricing/valuation type matter. (Matt not really actively policing me, but as my example if it was out of line it wouldve went behind scenes, so passively policing the question/topic) So I get the help part, but at what point are you not seeing how the thread is moving past all of that, and two moderators are already addressing it? In effect, what help did you provide with your initial message if not to just berate me even more? What help was provided that wasnt already put in this thread? You claim to be helping me, so how would YOU value such a coin. What would be your theoretical price as a buyer AND as a seller. How do you reach those conclusions? Thats my real question here and what I really want to know.
This is what helps me Frank, just so you know. This is another way of asking the very similar question I am asking.
The thing is... I could answer you... but in doing so I would almost HAVE to disclose the price in order for my answer to make sense. There are several factors that went into my pricing of this coin. A) It's a totally wholesome original coin. This is getting harder and harder to find these days. B) This coin IS very premium for the grade. C) If there wasn't such a big jump in price in 65... I could see the coin in a 65 holder... but this is a wonderful example of market grading... the grading companies tend to stick their necks out less on coins like this.
It's actually a 63, but, the big time dealer that sent it in had a favor owed to him, so they upped it to 64 and added the plus as a bonus. That's really all they could do for him at the time.
I am fairly new to the forum, but do not understand why you cannot say what a coin is worth, or valued at. Kind of silly to me.
There is a separate forum for buying or selling items. Outside of that forum, that sort of discussion is not allowed. That's basically what's going on.
No, it applies to all who have coins they are selling. Now if someone asks how much you paid for a coin in you collection, that is permitted.
@LostDutchman is there a reason you're not using your "Coolest thing to walk into the store this week" thread for these? I really enjoy that discussion and this coin (and the other you recently posted) would seem to fit that subject.
I've said repeatedly in this thread, in almost every single one of my responses, that I do not want to buy this coin. Period. My discussion of price was simply in relation to how you would go about putting a number on such a coin from both the buyers perspective and from a sellers perspective. There are some interesting factors with the series coming into play, eye appeal, stated grade, the plus attribute, the price jump at the next grade level, etc. So how do you set a number on that as a buyer? as a seller? and in a case like this where the two opinions could be drastically different, by even double the price? If I'm a buyer and I would pay $3K but the only seller who has this fairly unique coin in grade, eye appeal, and label, etc has it priced at $5200, how do you bridge that gap? If it's a trade secret, I can live with that, but ultimately I'm just trying to see how in the future would be best to handle these types of situations. And to be clear, I'm getting married in like 3 weeks, coin buying is out for me right now fellas, to dispel any veiled illusion that I am somehow in the hunt for this coin. I'm not.
It's just good practice for some dealers in-between coin shows. Makes it easier to stay in character.
