1884 (p) Morgan with something under the 4

There seems to be a number (or other fragment of a serif) under the 4. Can't find anything like it on the VAM list. Any idea?

It seems to be a near date. Am I looking in the right ballpark?

die chip? Don't think it's an overdate.

 

It's on both sides of the central bar though. Typically, that's only found on an overdate or clashed die.

 

I agree with possible die break. It's on both sides of the cross bar due to that area breaking along the entire number. JMHO.

 

Not sure but on the left side you can see where the metal has peeled back.

 

Take a toothpick and remove it.
