Oh my! 1883 Liberty Nickels have 2 varieties, no Cents and five cents. I deaf and dumb man gold plated the no cent Nickels and handed them as payment to anyone in a position to accept money. He received change as they were taken for a five dollar gold piece. He was eventually caught and tried but he was released as he never said they were five dollars or gold. He couldn't speak. Somewhere in my collection I have a nice one, with all the gold still on the coin.
Oh thank you! That's him. I couldn't think of his name for anything. @potty dollar 1878, just google him and you'll see what I was talking about.
They called those "Racketeer nickels", I believe. I have an 1883 with "Cents" but its condition is AG and not worth posting here.
The only true picture that I could find of a real one the story is nice which I did not include and a good history lesson today.
