    You do realize that acetone is also a hydrocarbon-based solvent. A three carbon chain with an oxygen double bound to the center carbon.

    Yes but dichloromethane is considered to be a potential carcinogen. Acetone isn't.

    I do. I actually have a B.S. in Chemistry. I only use analytical grade solvents on my coins due to issues with residues that can be left behind by stabilizers. Hard to find those at HomeDepot or WalMart. Acetone can change the color of copper because it is a more solvent reactive than MeCl2. I like inert solvents.
