I have this coin in my collection for almost a year now, How does the scratch on the edge will affect if I were to send this coin for grading?, however I guess the coin has already been cleaned!
It might or might not get a pass on the cleaning. I'd say the scrape is likely to get you a "details" grade. It is still a decent looking coin and I didn't notice that mark until you mentioned it. I say VF details. Here is one I had, sold, and miss. I wouldn't lay odds on your coin straight-grading, but then again, look at this dime I have now. NGC straight-graded it. See that hairline scratch across the portrait? Now, it isn't so harsh looking in hand (I needed a loupe to see it), but it's there. And they gave that a pass.
If the half shows obvious cleaning, it may be worthwhile to have it slabbed by a less expensive service like anacs or icg, to prove it's authentic, since these are frequently faked. Lord M., your Hawaii half is very much appreciated by its current custodian.
