The coin displays opal-like toning in hand. My pictures do not capture the luster this coin has, which is slightly subdued by the coins darkness. It's basically completely free from contacts but I'm slightly concerned with the spot next to the lips. Comments welcome...
It looks like it might have been dipped at some time to rid it of the dreaded spot......Out! Out! Damned spot! It also looks like it wasn't rinsed properly, and that may be the cause of the unusual toning. Chris
I agree with Chris. Also it looks like there may be wear on on the cap and hair, but the pictures are too dark to tell. It could be the typical New Orleans weak strike, but the tip of the Phrygian cap and some of the lower relief hair curls look to have breaks in the luster. I would say Au55-58
