1879 ???

    Can anyone tell me what is under the 1879 "9" by the loop of the "9" ??? Yes the pic is not great. Any idea ??

    Do you have photo editing software? PhotoScape is free to download and has a great cropping tool. Cropping out the excess makes it easier to see the detail. Also, in the future, put the loupe directly to the camera and then move the camera to the coin until it is in focus (just like you would do with your eye). Unless you provide better, higher resolution photos, I'm going to have to say I don't see anything either.

    Your eyes are better than mine...I don't see anything unusual, unless you mean the rim damage between the 9 and the star.

    Basically the extra line between the loop and just before the final loop of 9 . Almost like this "9" .

    That's just what they call a "Closed 9," a feature on Morgans common enough that some years' VAMs are separated into broad categories by whether the 9 is Closed or Open.
