The fields look pretty reflective to me under the toning. The cheek is pretty clean, except for the line between the nose and eye. These are hard to gauge sometimes as there does seem to be a lot of grade inflation over the years. I think a solid 64 but leaned towards the 65. We shall see...
It's a curious grade. I don't have many ICG coins, but I think it's good at 63-64. Don't know about a plus though...
I just busted out an 1849 V-8a hallf dime from a detailed ICG slab as corroded details....well a short acetone bath and its an xf coin no corrosion whats so ever.... I never even look at ICG slabs....but this was a no brainer ....as all it needed was a short bath a $50 coin transformed to an xf coin woth 3x's What was paid.....
Am always late for reveals...or some are early ...so I'm not looking at 2nd page. Nice...I like it...good eye appeal to/for my taste...looks like a semi-PL/cam obverse if nothing official of course, but betting it may have eeked out a 64. Gosh, right after I posted this the reveal came up on the first page...wasn't there when I started...honest injun. Looks even better in the holder photo.
Got a nice bump for color. No problem with that grade. As I’d said 63 with a shot at 64. Obviously, the grader liked the eye appeal.
Its a dark rainy day...but as soon as we get some bright day light here...ill image and post the 1849 h -10 You'll see for yourself that its no where any corrosion on the coin.
IMO, an accurate grade for the 7th highest mintage 19th century Morgan. I like the subtle, pastel hues on both side.
I have an 1879S as well. Mine looks like an MS65. Maybe I ought to have it graded. I very seldom have a coin graded, but I do buy graded coins. I have an 1882CC, 1883CC, and 1884CC Morgans, all graded MS65. Nothing against your coin, but mine doesn't have any toning. I have 11 1921 Morgans, and an 1921D and a 1921S to match with my 2021 Morgans. Very little toning, but what there is is a very small ring on the edge of both sides of the coins.
