1879 London Mint Half Sovereign - A Nice Rare Coin

    This is quite a rare date in the better states of preservation, and IMO quite under appreciated.

    They are tough pictures to use so my guess is 63. I’m a big fan of the young head Victoria coinage and gold is always a little sweeter.

    Yes, sorry about the picture. The coin graded at "55" which certainly was fair, but possibly on the low side as it has considerable original proof-like surfaces and compares well to the "58" and even the "61" I have seen.

    I have an 1838 that grades "63" but was graded some 12+ years ago, and there has been a considerable grade creep in the series; thought about resubmitting for an upgrade.

    Coin graded 55 at PCGS.
