1877 Indian Head & 1909 S VDB- what does everyone think?

Great coins, the best ever is to have both of the keys to both of the series side by side. I'm thinking of saving for an 1877 IH though.

Welcome back to collecting. I think the 09vdb needs to be looked at with a loupe to verify. The "s"needs to show even serifs and has a tiny die chip inside the upper curve of the s. Looks like a tiny dot. All s's are the same for 09 and 1910. That coin has a bold L on liberty that looks kind of strange to me as well as the V.D.B. which really stands out. I'm not used to seeing these on the authentic examples I have looked at. Anyway,

The 1877 is supposed to have a shallow n but the lettering on the obverse isn't likely to be that bold. The best way to tell if the coin is authentic is to look for a die clash above the O on ONE. It was made by the throat and jaw of the portrait on the obverse. ALL authentic examples will have this. I can't see that on the pictures and may need magnification to see it on your coin although I have seen it survive on coins graded lower than that example.

If those coins are already pro graded then get them bought. If they are raw and are missing the correct diagnostics, run fast. JMO
